The Bell County Museum is pleased to announce a special visit by President Abraham Lincoln, commemorating the 150 anniversary of the Civil War. The visit will be held Saturday, May 21, 2011, from 2-4 p.m. The event is free and refreshments will be served.
President Lincoln will be accompanied by John Hay, Lincoln?s private secretary and assistant. Audience members will have an opportunity to hear some of Lincoln?s writings and ask questions.
President Lincoln will be portrayed by Bell County?s own Dr. Paxton Howard, a retired physician who also taught business at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Harry Sweet, an active member of the Bell County Historical Commission, will portray John Hay.
Dr. Howard said, ?This event is a great opportunity for families to learn more about the Civil War, which remains a dramatic and pivotal point in American history.?
